Take on the Takeaway

Based on the popular television shows Take on the Takeaway and Come Dine with Me, the aim of this intervention was to encourage students to get in the kitchen and enjoy cooking healthy dishes.  The intervention was developed to correct myths that healthy cooking is time consuming, expensive and not tasty.

The first part of the intervention would involve hosting an interactive Take on the Takeaway event with a Yorkshire celebrity chef to demonstrate how you can cook a quick and tasty meal from scratch at a lower price and in less time than it takes a takeaway to be delivered.  Recipe cards would also be made available at the event and on the Upforit website.   For more information see James Martin's recipes.

Come Dine with Me

At the event students would get the opportunity to sign up for the Come Dine with Me initiative, where they would be encouraged to host dinner parties for their peers and post their cooking experiences on Facebook.

James Martin came to Huddersfield Uni in May to showcase a live cooking demonstration, showing that cooking can be fun, quick and easy.

James accepted the challenge that he could prepare a fresh meal quicker than the time for the order and delivery of a takeaway. He suceeded with some fantastic recipes.
